They are prepared with a variety of delicious fillings, which can be savoury or sweet: Beef, cheese, vegetables, chicken, chocolate, dulce de leche, among others.The dough is wrapped around the filling, sealed and then baked or deep-fried until crispy. Empanadas can be served hot or cold.
Each Argentinian province has its own variety of empanadas, different pastry recipes, fillings and repulgues (sealing borders). The name comes from the Spanish verb empanar, which literally means 'to wrap in bread'.
