Empanadas can be served hot or cold.

Each Argentinian province has its own variety of empanadas, different pastry recipes, fillings and repulgues (sealing borders). The name comes from the Spanish verb empanar, which literally means 'to wrap in bread'.

*Empanadas Criollas are typically from the capital Buenos Aires and are filled with beef - the 'Criollo' dough is particularly suitable for this. It is made with less fat than the traditional type and is particularly crispy.
