Der Alfajor-Doppelkeks ist arabischen Ursprungs, der nach Amerika in den Lagern der spanischen Schiffe während der Kolonialzeit kam. Der Name stammt aus dem maurisch spanischen Al-Hasu, d.h. - Füllung-. Heutzutage gilt es aber als typisches Produkt des südlichen Lateinamerikas, wo es traditionell mit einer Füllung aus Dulce de Leche (Milchkaramellcreme) hergestellt. Die Havanna Fabrik wurde 1948 in Buenos Aires, Argentinien, gegründet und produziert jährlich über 100 Millionen Alfajores.

Ihre Alfajores wurden eine der Hauptattraktionen von Mar Del Plata, sehr beliebt unter Touristen. Danach wurden sie ein Emblem Produkt Argentiniens.
