PLAYADITO Yerba Mate Tea, 1kg
Playadito is an Argentine yerba mate brand known for its mild and balanced flavor. It is produced by the Cooperativa Liebig and is one of the most popular mate brands in Argentina and beyond.
The blend contains leaves and stems of the mate plant and is especially suitable for beginners, as it is less bitter than many other varieties. Traditionally, Playadito is consumed in a gourd with a bombilla as a hot mate tea, or cold as tereré.
Yerba Mate
Yerba mate is used to prepare mate tea. When the drink is served cold, it is called tereré. Mate tea is traditionally consumed in South America, but it is also popular in Syria and Lebanon.
Yerba mate means “mate herb,” where the word mate originally comes from mati, a complex term with several meanings in the Quechua language. Mati can mean “container for a drink,” “infusion of a herb,” or “calabash.”
The infusion is prepared in a container (typically a calabash) filled up to three-quarters with dried leaves (and stems) of the mate plant. The leaves are steeped with water at a temperature of 70–80 °C.
The calabash is also called guampa, porongo, or cuia, depending on the country. It is drunk through a special metal straw (bombilla in Spanish, bomba in Portuguese). The calabash is passed from one person to another (usually in a circle) and refilled
