Panela, also known as whole cane sugar, is a natural alternative to conventional white sugar.
It is obtained by boiling down sugarcane juice and is not refined. As a result, valuable nutrients are preserved.
Whole cane sugar contains vitamins (A, B, C, D, E) as well as important minerals such as calcium, copper, potassium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, and zinc. Its mineral content is up to 50 times higher than that of refined sugar.
The term "fraccionada" means that the panela is divided into convenient portions, making it particularly practical for use in the kitchen.
Whether for sweetening drinks, in desserts, or traditional dishes – panela gives food a caramel-like flavor and an authentic touch.
In South America, this sugar is known by various names: Panela (Colombia), Chancaca (Bolivia), Rapadura (Brazil), and Raspadura (Argentina and Paraguay).
